Problem Statement

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, in 2014, 42,480 work-related injuries involved ice, sleet, or snow. When the weather conditions lead to ice, our salt crews must carry heavy bags of salt and they have to work in dangerous conditions. Salt crews have to undergo immense strain and pressure to be able to keep the community safe.

Elevator Pitch

Did you know that over 40,000 work-related injuries involved ice, sleet, or snow? Project Icebreaker is our attempt to solve this problem. We are developing a manually-operated robot that is meant to dispense salt over ice-affected roads, sidewalks, bridges, etc.

Project Icebreaker will not only prevent college facilities personnel from getting injured in icy conditions, but it also prevents the average college student from losing their balance and slipping (or even getting injured) on the icy ground. Project Icebreaker is a practical solution that will improve the safety and wellbeing of college students and essential workers and is a leap towards a better, safer, and innovative future.
